Level definition

A level is a specific price, or narrow price area, that traders mark on a chart to anticipate a market reaction. It flags a price where buying or selling pressure has appeared before.

The most common levels are support and resistance. Support is a lower price where buyers may step in; resistance is an upper price where sellers may step in.

A level is the price area itself, while a horizontal line is the tool you draw to mark it on the chart. Levels also cover psychological prices, previous highs and lows, and breakout zones, and traders use them to place entries, exits, and stop-loss orders.

Level Example

EUR/USD rises toward 1.1000 several times but fails to break above it.

You mark 1.1000 as a resistance level.

If price later breaks above 1.1000 and holds, you may treat that level as a breakout point or as future support.
